This was a song I wrote based on a text analysis of Bowie lyrics. Albums with more positive emotion words and more social words were more commerically successful (it's true ...
www.TheGospelAccordingToDavidBowie.com). This lyric was written to maximise these types of words and was portrayed (somewhat tongue in cheek) as "the ideal Bowie lyric".
It received a huge amount of international press interest but was misrepresented by much of it and so a lot of people missed the point. I wasn't claiming it was "better" than Bowie, merely optimising the number of words related to commercial success. It is not like a Bowie lyric (it doesn't have the type of narrative Bowie often uses). It is also based purely on commercial success and not what relates to fans' preference.
One question some people have raised is who owns the copyright if the lyric is based on an analysis of Bowie songs.
I do.
The lyric was written taking words from the dictionary that are in the categories of positive emotions and social words, they were randomised and cut up and I selected those phrases that seemed interesting and could be ordered to make a coherent lyric. There are no phrases taken in any form from any Bowie song.
